This trip over Easter 2010 had it all: 3D dragon training, outstanding athleticism, cake baking, woodworking, wheel barrow headaches, car ferry ride, boiling sap, building bases, cottage cuddling, Dora the Explorer, bike riding, mountian lookout climbing, hiking, the trampoline, swimming, wonderful home cooking, and even computer repair and internet troubleshooting!
My mother-in-law moved out to Washington Island, Door County, WI, in November 2009. This was our first time to get back out there, and the boys’ first time seeing their grandma’s awesome new place, an 18 acre mostly wooded property in the heart of the island!
Before we left, we went to see the movie How To Train Your Dragon in 3D IMAX!
The ferry ride was unusual, in that we had a huge flammable liquid (gasoline?) tanker truck on our ferry ride out there, and it was loaded so much that when it drove onto the boat which was already loaded with cars and people, the entire ferry lunged up and down, forward and back. Finally I understood exactly why we set the parking break on the car while on the ferry!
At the local Egglympics, Bryant was far and away the most decorated athlete of all the kids and adults! Will was the lawn bowling champ and won a real bowling pin trophy! We hunted for easter eggs, witnessed a good ole’ fashioned hot dog eating contest, did some toilet seat tossing, and the boys even got to target practice with real pellet guns! We must certainly have been far away form the big city.
Dora was so excited to see us again, and the maple sap was boiling when we arrived - it continued to boil and boil and boil all the way down into maple syrup, since it takes like 44 gallons of sap to be evaporated into one gallon of pure syrup. Mmmm was that some good syrup!
I spent *way* too much time fixing the computer and troubleshooting the internet, and that combined with doing the weekly updates for the Milwaukee Courier web site, solidified my inability to escape my normal everyday work. One project though, I started building bases for bee hives out of 2X4 and 4X4 treated lumber. Got lots of cuts made, and only finished one base. Strong enough to hold the 400 pounds which will be on it!
The boys were running all over the place and spent so much time on the trampoline you would have though they lived on it. Will, Emily, and I had a nice bike ride together, and Will, Bryant, and Hillery went swimming at the rec center. We all climbed the moutnain tower lookout together on the day way left, it was a very nice view from up there on a clear sunny day! We also celebrated my sisters-in-law Autumn’s and Emily’s birthdays, and finally got to give out some Christmas presents to our neices Sophia and Francis.
And my mother-in-law’s cooking was the BEST as usual. If every day started out with such a great breakfast for me, all my days would be much better for sure!
