Remember Fisher Price Construx from the 80′s and early 90′s? Bryant and I built a larger greenhouse out of them! It went down like this:
The plants were all sprouting in the Jiffy containers so incredibly fast that we had to take it to the next level in a hurry.
So we built a starting frame the size of the coffee table, about 5 feet long and two feet wide, and then also built it two feet in the air. In true good ‘ole fashioned construx building style, we dumped all the pieces on the floor so it was easier to find the ones we were looking for.
Hillery was supervisor and photographer, and she helped me move the finished greenhouse which was a little cumbersome to do by myself. Hillery also wrapped it in plastic left over form our window covering kits, Christmas present style. She has always been *much* better than I am at wrapping presents!
We also built a shelf on either side to hold up the lighting inside the greenhouse and platforms on which to arrange the plants closer to or further from the light as needed. All out of Construx of course.
At the time of writing this, we have moved the whole setup into our balcony window so it also gets sunlight, some of the plants are approcahing six inches tall already only 11 days after planting the seeds, about two thirds of all the seeds have sprouted, and two mini sunflower plants have outgrown their jiffy starting packs and been repotted.
Stay tuned, more to come!
